The Ultimate Guide To Eco-Friendly Carpet Cleaning

Gather Your Cleaning Supplies

Combine baking soda with scented essential oils. Sprinkle onto carpet, let sit, and vacuum to transform your rug into a clean freshly scented one.

If you have stains, rent a carpet cleaner but instead of using their chemicals make up a batch of vinegar & baking soda

  • 1 cup of plain white vinegar
  • 1/4 cup of baking soda
  • 20 drops of essential oil (Optional)
Directions
Add the baking soda to a jug and slowly pour in the vinegar. When combined, they fizz up initially so make sure you have some extra space in your jug.

Add Essential oils – We used 10 Drops of peppermint oil and lavender.

Make sure you have dissolved as much of the baking soda as possible, you don’t want gritty carpets. Add your home-made carpet cleaning solution into the tank of your steam cleaner along with water and follow the unit’s directions to clean the carpet(s).

BONUS! This is significantly cheaper than pre-packaged chemical cleaning solutions.

The rugs will still have a mild damp smell but once dried they simply will have a faint aroma of the essential oils. So, if you wanted more than a lingering essential oil aroma, add more to the mixture.

Vinegar and baking soda are also excellent drain cleaners, so it’s like doing two jobs at once.
